Early Sunday morning, a compound wall in a residential society in Pune collapsed, damaging at least 14 vehicles, including both two-wheelers and four-wheelers. The incident took place around 3 am in the city’s Katraj area, following a night of heavy rainfall that battered the region.

According to fire brigade officials, the residential society is situated on Jambhulwadi Road. The wall collapsed onto a parking shed, leading to significant damage to the vehicles parked underneath. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, as the incident occurred during the early hours when most residents were asleep.

Teams from the Katraj fire station were promptly dispatched to the scene after receiving an alert about the collapse. They worked quickly to assess the situation and ensure the safety of the surrounding area. Witnesses expressed relief that no one was hurt, but they lamented the damage to their vehicles.

Local authorities indicated that the heavy rains had contributed to the structural failure of the wall. Experts are expected to investigate the integrity of the remaining structures in the society to prevent any further incidents. Residents have voiced concerns about the maintenance of such structures, especially during monsoon season.

This collapse highlights the ongoing issues with infrastructure resilience in Pune, particularly in residential areas prone to heavy rainfall. The local government has been urged to take immediate action to inspect other similar structures to avert potential disasters.
