In a decisive action, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has initiated suo motu cognisance regarding allegations of child abuse at a daycare centre in the Brookefield area of Bengaluru. The Commission’s move comes in response to disturbing reports that surfaced in the media, highlighting instances of physical abuse and torture of children.

On July 2, NCPCR Member Secretary Dr. Sanjeev Sharma communicated with Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner P S Kantharaju, informing him of the Commission's plans to investigate the allegations. The letter emphasizes the urgency of the situation and the need to safeguard the rights and well-being of the affected children.

To facilitate the inquiry, an NCPCR team, led by Senior Technical Expert Paresh Shah, is scheduled to visit Bengaluru on July 3. The team's mission will involve gathering factual information about the daycare's operations and interviewing staff, parents, and possibly the children involved to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the allegations.
