Mumbai has been hit hard by monsoon rains, recording over 100 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours leading up to 8 am on Friday. The intense downpour has raised concerns among residents as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of continued heavy to very heavy showers throughout the day.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in its latest update has confirmed that gusty winds are also on the way, with speeds expected to reach between 50 to 60 kmph. This combination of heavy rain and strong winds could pose serious challenges for commuters and local infrastructure.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, suburban train services on the Central, Western, and Harbour lines were reported to be operating normally during the morning hours. However, many commuters expressed frustration as local trains were seen running behind schedule, causing delays in reaching their destinations.

The BMC has activated its monsoon emergency protocols, urging citizens to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall. Local authorities are also monitoring areas prone to waterlogging and flooding to ensure rapid response times.

In light of the severe weather conditions, officials have advised residents to prepare for possible disruptions, including potential power outages due to the impact of heavy rains on electrical infrastructure. The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has also issued warnings, urging residents to stay safe and report any disruptions promptly.

As the monsoon season progresses, Mumbai is no stranger to such weather patterns. However, with predictions of additional rainfall, the city is bracing for what could be a challenging few days ahead.

Authorities continue to encourage residents to stay updated on weather forecasts and heed advisories issued by the IMD to ensure their safety during this period of inclement weather.
