Ahmedabad, Gujarat – The ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is nearing completion, as announced by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. During an event in Sanand, Gujarat, Vaishnaw informed the media that approximately 80 percent of the project has been finalized, and the inaugural section is expected to be operational by 2027.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor represents India’s inaugural foray into high-speed rail travel, promising to significantly reduce travel time between the two major cities. The project has been characterized by its rapid progress, with various phases being completed in a staggered manner to ensure timely delivery.

Vaishnaw emphasized the importance of this project, stating, “The first section of the Bullet Train is progressing smoothly, and we are committed to opening it on schedule.” He noted that the remaining sections of the corridor will also be opened in phases, ensuring that the public can access the high-speed service as soon as possible.

With a top speed of 320 kilometers per hour, the bullet train aims to complete the journey between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in just over two hours, a significant improvement over the current travel times. The project, which is being developed with Japanese collaboration, is expected to enhance connectivity and boost economic growth in the region.

The minister's comments come amidst a broader push for modern infrastructure in India, which has seen an increase in investments in various transport sectors, including rail and road networks. The government is keen on establishing more high-speed rail corridors across the country.

As the project approaches its completion milestone, stakeholders remain optimistic about the socio-economic benefits it will bring, including job creation and increased tourism. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train is being closely watched as a model for future high-speed rail initiatives in India.
