India's services sector showed signs of weakening in June, as the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for services fell to 57.4 from 59.8 in May. This decline, reported in a survey released on Friday, highlights a softening of domestic demand and a general stagnation in hiring practices across the industry.

The seasonally adjusted HSBC India Services PMI Business Activity Index remains above the critical threshold of 50, indicating expansion; however, the drop to 57.4 marks the most subdued growth in services activity seen in the last 17 months. Analysts pointed out that while the reading is above the long-run average, the decline suggests potential challenges ahead for the sector.
