Washington, July 4 (PTI) — The Indian Navy's P-8i maritime patrol aircraft has arrived in Hawaii to participate in the Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) 2023, the largest naval exercise globally, coordinated by the US Pacific Fleet.

This year's RIMPAC, themed 'Partners: Integrated and Prepared', showcases India's strategic commitment to maintaining a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific. The Indian Embassy in the US highlighted this participation through a post on social media platform X, emphasizing the enhancement of interoperability and maritime domain awareness among partner navies.

RIMPAC 2023 brings together an impressive array of military assets and personnel from around the world. Over 30 nations are involved, contributing more than 30 surface ships, five submarines, and 15 national land forces. With a total of over 206 aircraft and 30,000 military personnel engaged, the exercise promises a robust training opportunity.

Since its inception in 1971, RIMPAC has served as a unique platform for enhancing collaborative relationships among naval forces, focusing on mutual understanding and operational readiness. This year’s event runs from June 24 to July 31, taking place in and around the Hawaiian Islands.

India's participation underscores its strategic vision for enhancing defense ties in the region, especially as nations increasingly focus on maritime security amid rising geopolitical tensions. The P-8i aircraft is specifically designed for anti-submarine warfare, surveillance, and reconnaissance, making it a critical asset in joint operations.

As the exercise progresses, it will not only test operational capabilities but also promote dialogue and cooperation among participating nations, reinforcing the significance of collective maritime security.
