As Mumbai braces for a relentless downpour, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the city, Thane, and nearby regions. The alert comes as heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated over the weekend, particularly on Saturday and Sunday.

According to the IMD, the city has already recorded 99 mm of rain in the past 24 hours, with conditions expected to deteriorate further. Forecasts indicate that isolated areas might experience extremely heavy rainfall, raising concerns about waterlogging and disruptions to daily life.

In addition to the heavy rains, the IMD has warned of occasional gusty winds that could reach speeds of 50-60 km/h. Such winds increase the risk of falling trees, which could pose hazards to pedestrian and vehicular movement. The local authorities are on high alert, preparing to address any emergencies that may arise.

Residents are advised to take precautions, especially those living in low-lying areas that are prone to flooding. The city’s disaster management teams are poised to respond to reports of waterlogging and any other rain-related incidents.

Transportation services, including local trains and buses, may also face disruptions due to the heavy rains. Commuters are encouraged to stay updated with real-time information and consider alternative travel plans to avoid delays.

As the rains continue to pour, it remains crucial for individuals to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary and to prepare for the possibility of prolonged rainfall. The IMD is expected to provide further updates as the situation develops, ensuring that residents are informed of any changes in the weather forecast.
