Mumbai is bracing for severe weather as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a holiday for all government, private, and municipal schools and colleges on July 6, 2023. This decision was made amid persistent rainfall that has significantly impacted the city, leading to an Orange Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The heavy rains have already resulted in Mumbai receiving more than 55% of its average annual rainfall, with many areas reporting over 250 mm of rain within a 24-hour period. Such extreme weather conditions have prompted authorities to prioritize the safety of students, making the declaration of a holiday a necessary precaution.
